2021 Word In Focus: Light

“For with you is the fountain of life, in your light we see light.”– Psalm 36:9

As I write tonight, the sun is setting on the horizon, just barely minutes from being out of view. And there it is again- light. I am drawn to it and ask it to linger a bit longer with me here as I write.

In the quiet today, the word light continued to roll around in spirit. As a year ends, it’s easy to look forward to that light ahead and be a bit overwhelmed with the possibilities a new year brings- the new light it brings to the horizon.

For the last few years, I have chosen a word that I feel the Lord is leading me to lean into for the year. Initially, I felt it would be “heal”- as with many of us, 2020 left me with more wounds, hurts, brokenness, and sheer hopelessness at times that I felt that would be the most appropriate word.

But over the last few days a new word has emerged- light. You might have noticed a consistent theme of late, but as I was reading today- I thought about what light means in a bigger spiritual, biblical sense. I like to read different versions of the Bible and compare them, so today I read from Psalm 36:9:

NIV Version:

“For with you is the fountain of life, in your light we see light.”

TPT Version:

“To know you is the experience of a flowing fountain, drinking in your life, springing up to satisfy in your light we receive the light of revelation.”

In all the versions I read, light and life are synonymous with each other. They are used interchangeably, as well as harmoniously to describe who Christ is in our lives.

So as we step into a new year, I encourage you to live in that light that leads to life. The light that will shine life into dark places.

There you see the light honored my heart for sharing today, the light lingered just long enough outside and yet, lingers still inside us- long after it’s gone.
