Quarantine Life

Notes from Quarantine- 4.8.20- Change of Scenery

Sometimes this quarantine thing feels like jail. The monotony of it all. It’s like I got picked  up and dropped in some alternate reality just watching, waiting, and doing the same thing over and over again- all within the walls of my house.

It’s a strategic ordeal to escape now for supplies- masks, hand sanitizers, wipes, how can I best avoid EVERY person that may or may not come with me? Then when I come back- I can’t just unload everything from my car- it must be processed before entering.

It’s also some kind of cruel torture that I can video chat with all the people that I can’t actually hug in person.

I just wonder if tomorrow will be different. When we will be released?

Just like all those wonderings- I also wonder what life will be like when it all goes back to “normal”. Will we view strangers and friends the same. Will we still pick up the phone and call all the people that we connect with here when we have time to do so? Will our priorities be different? Will our perspective change? Or will we be the same people that we were before.

I don’t know about you- but I don’t want to be.

I want this experience to matter to all of us on the deepest of levels. If you need the rest, rest. If you needed time and space to start something you’ve been meaning to start- let’s do it. We’ve got no excuses. We’re getting a glimpse of something new- something big that God is stirring not only in us, but in the world.

If you doubt that this whole scenario will be used for his glory- you better pick up your Bible. It’s full of stories where God changes the scenery, people change their vision.

Take Noah, Jacob, Jonah- all of them just going along living their lives and poof-life is different.  It stunk for a minute- quarantined on a ship for years, as a slave in a foreign land, stuck in the belly of a whale- but the other side is freedom, hope, and undeniable trust. He is doing a new thing- it may not look particularly lovely now- but it’s good because we’re becoming the people He needs us to be, the ones he created us to be.

Hold tight everyone.

It’s gonna be good.

But don’t take my word for it.

Take His.
